In 1980 Clara moved from her home state of New Mexico to Mobile for a teaching job.  She could not resist the pull of southern charm and oaks dripping with moss.

She began dabbling in art and crafts at a young age with her mom who successfully tried her hand at many things including oil painting. 

After a few years here, she began instruction in oil painting. Clara was in love…until 2 boys and a principalship took up her spare time. 

Close to the end of her 43 years in education she was introduced to Zentangle® and in 2018 traveled to Providence, Rhode Island to become a Certified Zentangle® Teacher (CZT). It is a procedure which breaks down intricate patterns into reproducible steps. The primary mediums in this “no-mistake” process are micron pens and graphite.  I combine these patterns into Zentangle® Inspired Art (ZIAs).

In 2020 she branched out into watercolors and likes to combine it with her Zentangle® practice. She has broadened her mediums by exploring and falling in love with buttery Prismacolor pencils and dabbles with alcohol inks. 

Clara is indebted to many local artists who have shared their skills and expertise with her.  She hopes to never stop learning and creating!
