She has served as artist mentor in after school arts & gifted programs in several elementary schools, was a portrait drawing instructor for a math & science charter high school Arts Intercession Program and has demonstrated in both drawing and painting at the Greenville County Museum of Art as part of its Artist in Action program. Nancy was a docent for the Greenville County Museum of Art (2008 - 2013), where she gave talks and led tours for artists such as Andrew & Jamie Wyeth, William H. Johnson, Mary Whyte, and Jasper Johns. Nancy was also involved in the 21st Century Learning Center program at Leinkauf Elementary located in Mobile, Alabama, where she created and taught a 3-year visual art curriculum for the programs after school classes. Nancy also served as a Community Partner Liaison between Leinkauf Elementary and the Leinkauf Historic District Neighborhood Association.

Watercolor is Nancy’s medium of choice, though she often works in graphite, ink, acrylic and soft pastel. Exploring the mixed media combination of watercolor & pastel together, has ignited a fresh and expressive approach to painting for her. In recent years, she has become the student again, exploring the world of Japanese Sumi-e and Calligraphy, finding both art forms challenging but exhilarating. She has also developed quite the love for botanical art; bringing her back to her illustrator roots and love of studying and drawing from life. Nancy’s work has won several awards.

Nancy Barry is a past President of the Mobile Art Association. She holds memberships in the following organizations: Mobile Art Association, Watercolor & Graphic Art Society, Coastal Alabama Botanical Artists Circle (a chapter of the American Society of Botanical Artists), Mobile Arts Council, the Sumie Society of America and the Shibui Society of Mobile.
